BOOT CAMP:
RECRUIT OF THE MONTH

Each Month Fit To Go & In Motion would like to recognize one special recruit for the their individual efforts. This honour is given to a recruit for their commitment to the boot camp program. The honoured recruit must work hard, have a positive attitude, and be willing to improve their fitness level. We ask each recruit a few questions about their experience in the boot camp program and what their personal fitness goals are. We post them on our website along with their picture. All honoured recruits will receive an In Motion Prize!

May 2012- Kerry Harper

Why have you decided to join the Fit To Go boot camp?
I like the challenges that Kristi sets at these camps.

What are your personal fitness goals?
To stay fit and healthy.

What motivates you to exercise?
I want to stay in shape and stay healthy so I can chase my 3-year old grandson around.

How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?
I try to get to the gym three times per week and workout one hour each time. I also walk and ride a bike for one hour on a regular basis.

How many years have you been active person?
I have always been active. At least 25 years.

Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?
Yes, sometimes it makes me stay focused on daily activities.

What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?
I like going to the outside boot camps because they are fun and sometimes the weather is an added challenge.

Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?
Don’t give up after your first time. You need to push yourself a little. Not everyone can go at the same pace and Kristi always adjusts to everyone’s ability.

Other comments?
I will continue to sign-up for these boot camps as long as I can because they are fun and enjoyable and I also meet new people.

April 2012- Becky Boersma

  1. Why have you decided to join an In Motion boot camp?
I joined in January 2012 with my sister. We both wanted to do something, but do not particularly enjoy the typical gym atmosphere. A few years ago, I had done a boot camp, and enjoyed both the style of the camp and being outdoors. So, when I heard about In Motion’s camps, I thought it might be a good fit for us.
  2. What are your personal fitness goals?
Primarily, I want to improve upon my overall health. That includes, weight loss, but also cardio, strength, and agility.
  3. What motivates you to exercise?
I’m hoping to be able to do things like ski, bike, hike, golf well into my future, and to do that, I need to get into better shape now.
  4. How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?
  5. I am doing the 1 hour boot camp twice a week, volleyball in the winter (1 hour) once a week, golf (in the summer) once a week, and make sure I either walk or do an exercise CD or something at home at least once or twice a week.
  6. How many years have you been active person?
I’ve always enjoyed skiing, biking, hiking, canoeing, etc. But, like many mothers who work FT and have kids in travel sports, I’ve found it difficult to be consistent with anything for a long time. So, now it’s time to focus and get back at it!
  7. Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?
Yes for sure. Not only do you feel better about yourself physically, but the mental stress of daily life seems to decrease as well.
  8. What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?
My favourite part of boot camp is never knowing what to expect. I like the interval style of training that boot camps offer and Kristi is really good at switching it up, so it is never routine or boring.
  9. Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll will always get what you’ve always had. So, just do it. Make a change. There’s no need to worry that you can’t keep up or won’t know how to do something. Kristi is very good at working with people of all abilities.

March 2012- Melissa Medeiros

  1. Why have you decided to join an In Motion boot camp?
Originally I joined to try something new, now I continue to tone and stay in shape.
  2. What are your personal fitness goals?
Increase my cardio and strengthen my muscles.
  3. What motivates you to exercise?
The results! I feel so much better about myself physically and mentally.
  4. How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?
I attend 3 boot camps per week, one hour per session and work out at home twice once per week when I can for 30-45 minutes per session.
  5. How many years have you been active person?
I have been active for the past three years off and on, but the past six months I have been giving 100% to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  6. Do you find everyday life is enhanced by exercise?
    Absolutely!!
  7. What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?
Kristi, she gives me that extra push that I need to keep working hard.
  8. Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?
Stick with it!! By the end of your six weeks you will be very proud of the results you will see. I guarantee you will join another boot camp.
  9. Other comments?
When I originally started boot camps with Kristi, I started to have some back problems and my Dr said I wouldn’t be able to participate in the boot camps anymore. I talked with Kristi and she gave me some exercises that I could do with modifications. Now almost two years later, I work out 5-6 days per week doing various exercises and boot camps. Thank you Kristi for your support

February 2012- Carol Peters

Why have you decided to join the Fit To Go boot camp?
I joined in September with a friend as part of a social/fitness routine. We had previously done yoga, dance, and zumba together so we decided to challenge ourselves with something different.

What are your personal fitness goals?
I want to continue to stay healthy, active and flexible for as long as I can. I also want to look good in my clothes.
What motivates you to exercise?
I love feeling my muscles strengthening and toning. I can’t believe how great I feel after a session.

How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?
I attend Kristi’s boot camp sessions twice a week, for an hour each time.
How many years have you been active person?
For as long as I can remember I have been involved in some type of physical activity whether it’s tennis, golf, yoga, zumba, bike riding or dancing.

Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?
Of course! Having a regular exercise regime has improved my energy level and my health. It’s also been a lot of fun!

What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?
I love the time of the classes. As a school teacher I find that the 4:45 time slot gives me time to go home and change then get to the class without a rush and I still have my evening free. I also like the variety of the sessions. Each session is a surprise. It certainly is never dull or boring.

Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?
Don’t be intimidated. It will probably be hard at first but Kristi is wonderful at modifying exercises to suit her clients. Before you know it, you will be working your schedule around Boot Camp because you can’t imagine missing a class.

Other comments?
I wasn’t sure I would like the outdoor work-outs, I have asthma and I thought this might prove to be a challenge. But my doctor encouraged me to keep at it and I can’t imagine stopping now.
Thanks Kristi, for your commitment, encouragement, knowledge and laughter.

December 2011- Tori Spanton

Why have you decided to join the Fit To Go boot camp?

I heard great things about Kristi’s bootcamps and wanted a new challenge. I enjoy pushing myself just a little bit further.

What are your personal fitness goals?

Basically I just want to stay fit. If I loose a bit of weight in the process, great, but continuing to stay healthy is my motivating factor.%u2028%u2028As strange as it may sound I really enjoy exercise. I am motivated to keep healthy and show my son the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?

Normally 3 days a week between boot camp and running about an hour a piece.

How many years have you been active person?

Most of my life I have been active on and off. Recently, the last three years or so I have been very focused on a healthy lifestyle.

Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?

Definitely! It is an amazing stress reducer, makes you feel better about yourself and as a mother it is one of my very few ‘me’ times.

What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?
I love the challenge! It’s a great group of people and I love that there is always some new and challenging exercise.

Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?

Go at your own pace. You are there for you and no one else so do what feels right and make it fun!

Other comments?

I thoroughly enjoy Kristi’s bootcamps! There is always something new every 6 weeks, and far from boring! She is an excellent motivator!

To stay healthy and strong as I get older. It keeps my energy level up and my weight down.

I feel strong and confident when I exercise. It is all the best stress reliever I know.

2- 1 hour boot camps per week as well as an active lifestyle. Biking, walking or jogging in between boot camps.

OCTOBER 2011 - Christy Heath

Corunna Boot Camp!

  1. Why have you decided to join the Fit To Go boot camp?

When I started doing Fit To Go Boot camp, I was trying to find something that worked for me. Signing up at a Gym was not the answer, tried that. Something that I really liked doing, something that showed results and something that would help me to reach my fitness goals and something that I would not become bored with.

  2. What are your personal fitness goals?

When I first joined my main goal was to lose weight. Now my focus is more on improving my fitness/strength level. (for example, when I started Boot camp I could barley do 3 regular push-ups, now I can do 23 and I want to continue to improve on that number).

  3. What motivates you to exercise?

The feeling of accomplishment. Doing exercises that I never thought that I could do and continuously being challenged.

  4. How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?

I do Boot camp with Kristi 2 days a week for an hour, I play volleyball one night a week and if it is a good week I get out for a 5KM run once per week.

  5. How many years have you been active person?

I have always been an active person. When I was younger I played sports and danced. But now being active is different. It is now a routine part of life and has to be. I have struggled with my weight for a good part of my life and have finally come to the realization that the answer is to eat healthy, exercise and not deprive myself.

  6. Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?

Absolutely. Making exercise a part of everyday life is so important. For me it is an outlet, it is my time to focus on nothing but getting in a great workout.

  7. What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly.

  8. Kristi! When I first signed up for “Boot camp” I didn’t know what to expect. Kristi is the perfect balance of encourager, motivator and drill sergeant

Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?

Give it a try and you will love it! Each Boot camp that you do will be different and challenge you in different ways.

SEPTEMBER 2011 - Lisa Armstrong

Corunna Boot Camp!

Why have you decided to join the Fit To Go boot camp?

I started doing FitToGo Bootcamp just after I did my first short triathlon. I wanted to build muscle to get my whole body ready for a full-length Triathlon. That was 2 years ago, and I think it was the best thing I could have done. I remember at first not even being able to do a push-up, and now the amount of strength I have gained is great!

What are your personal fitness goals?

Better health for a longer life. I have struggled with my weight since I was a kid, diet after diet, I always would always yo-yo back. But since focusing more on fitness and moderation with food without depriving myself, I have been at a consistent weight and able to do things I never thought possible.

What motivates you to exercise?

Better health, being able to indulge in chocolate and other sweet treats sometimes, and enjoying the outdoors. Kristi definitely motivates me when I am at Bootcamp. Kristi always knows when to push and when you are giving it your all, and she is manages to do this in an upbeat way that is encouraging and motivating.

How many days a week do you exercise and how long each session?

I do Bootcamp once a week, and usually run 10K on Sunday mornings, and a shorter run during the week.. I try to fit in some biking and swimming when possible, and love walking. When training for a triathlon, I spend more time.

How many years have you been active person?

Really just the last 5 years. I was never into sports much, and not really the athletic-type, but I have tried various exercise classes since my early 20s. Most of the classes required too much coordination for me, and I didn’t stick with it. But Bootcamp really worked for me. I loved that it was outside – even in the winter – and coordination was not a key requirement

Do you find every day life is enhanced by exercise?

Absolutely! I have so much more energy to funnel into other important things. I have been able to do things I would never have envisioned myself doing, like a triathlon, and that gives confidence to try other new things. It surprises me how I have gotten to the point of wanting to exercise, and missing it if I don’t have time. Nothing like a run or a bootcamp after a frustrating day.!

What would be the one aspect of the boot camp that really draws you regularly?

The fact that the program changes every 6 weeks and you are able to see yourself progress during those 6 weeks, this way I don’t get bored doing the same thing..

Any advice for new/beginner boot camp recruiters?

Come out and give it a try. It will be hard, but just give it your best and you will be amazed with yourself after 6 weeks. You will have sore muscles - even after 2 years of Bootcamp, every 6 weeks Kristi changes things up and I am sore in spots I didn’t know I had muscles – but it is good – helps me know that it is worth the time and effort!

Other comments?

Kristi’s bootcamps are great. She is a great motivator without being overwhelming or making you feel bad. Bootcamp is tough, but Kristi constantly reminds us that it is our hour, our workout and to make the most of it.
